How many of you remember this one of the most innocent and romantic songs from the movie ‘YES BOSS’? Of course, if you are a 90’s kid then I am sure you must have tried this song to impress a girl. 90’s Bollywood era was dominated by the romantic aura and charm of Shah Rukh Khan.
The charisma and alluring personality of Shah Rukh is one of the most important features that still enthralls the heart of many girls. ‘YES BOSS’ was one such movie in which the innocent gestures exchanged between Shah Rukh and Juhi became the romantic symbol of that time. The movie was directed by Aziz Mirza and produced by Ratan Jain and Umed Jain.
Before, Yes Boss, Shah Rukh, and Juhi had worked together in many films. They were the first cast together in ‘Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman’ in 1992 and since then this cute and romantic duo worked in various movies including, Darr (1993) in which Shah Rukh played the character of an insane lover who wants to get a hold on Juhi Chawla.
Then they worked together in Parmatma in 1994, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa in the same year, and Ram Jaane in 1995. The music of the ‘YES BOSS’ was composed by Jatin Lalit, one of the popular music directors of his time and lyrics was penned by Javed Akhtar. The movie was starring Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla, Aditya Pancholi, Gulshan Grover, and Karishma Shah. The movie was released in the year 1997 and became one of the blockbuster hit of that year.
It’s been 21 years since the movie ‘YES BOSS’ is released and no other movie can beat the depiction of innocence in this movie. After Yes Boss, Shah Rukh and Juhi even worked together in some other movies too, for instance, Duplicate in 1998 and Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani in 2000. The music of ‘Yes Boss’ was the hit of that year and almost every boy was inspired from the song ‘Main Koi Aisa Geet Gau’ and started pursuing the girl of their dream.
If you will ask me then this was one of my favorite song from the movie and even right now while writing about it, the song is played on my mind like a repeat telecast. The music of Yes Boss became one of the biggest hits of its time with the voice of Abhijeet Bhattacharya by winning ‘The best Singer Award’ that same year.
The movie was shot at some of the most romantic locations of SWITZERLAND. Known by various names like Suisse, Svizzera, and Suisse, Switzerland has always been an interesting location for Bollywood filmmakers in terms of shooting romantic scenes. Since ages Bollywood has chosen Switzerland for their movies. And if it’s the combination of Shah Rukh and Yash Johar, then no other place except Switzerland can prove to be the best option.
The iconic movie ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol created history in Indian cinema by its captivating storyline and shooting location. The song ‘Main Koi Aisa Geet Gau’ was shot at ZYTGLOGGE TOWER, a 13th-century medieval tower in BERN, SWITZERLAND that is considered as the Guard Tower or Clock Tower.
The sweet gesture and innocent pursuing of Shah Rukh as Rahul created an aroma of romance in the romantic locales of SWITZERLAND. Juhi as Seema in Yellow plain dress and Shah Rukh in Black long coat were looking the cutest couple together in the song. The song was the most sung track of its time. If you look minutely, then you see a backdrop of Christian marriage in the song. The soothing music and attractive lyrics of the song earned this movie as the highest grossing Indian Film of 1997.
Recently, Juhi Chawla posted a throwback picture from the sets of Yes Boss reviving some of the old memories. She captioned it:
“21 years to Main Koi Aisa Geet Gaoon Sweet memories on & off screen 21 years to Yes Boss today! #21YearsOfYesBoss @iamsrk”
Shah Rukh replied to this post of Juhi Chawla very sweetly:
“The love u, Bobby & Mom, Aziz & Ratanji gave me in this film gave me the confidence 2 b who I became. Lov u”
This was not the first time when any Bollywood movie was shot in Switzerland. Before Yes Boss, there are numbers of films starting from Sangam, a 1964 Bollywood movie, starring, Raj Kapoor, Rajendra Kumar, and Vyjayanthimala was shot at some scenic locations of Switzerland. This was for the first time when an Indian film was shot at any foreign locale. With Sangam, the doors to foreign locations been opened for Bollywood industry.
Another location that was the main part of the song ‘Main Koi Aisa Geet Gau’ was Fribourg Railway, running mainly between the Swiss Canton of Fribourg and Morat. The delightful and innocent smile of Juhi Chawla and a genuine liking of Shah Rukh for Juhi has marked this song as the most innocent song so far. In an interview given to Hindustan Times, Lalit Pandit, the music composer of this movie said:
“We composed the tune first and Javed Akhtar wrote the words later. The brief from Aziz Mirza (the director) was ki ladki upset ho gayi hai and ladka use khush Karne ki koshish kar raha hai. It is one of the most romantic songs which shows what all a guy can do for a girl. He recalls that the song took more time to compose than the average songs did those days. We took 15-20 days to finish the song and record it, which was a lot more than what it took then. This song is a gem in SRK’s career.”
The movie ‘YES BOSS’ was inspired by Billy Wilder directed movie ‘THE APARTMENT’. According to IMDB, the movie was also shot at Mannat Bungalow and H.K. Bhaba Road in Mumbai. The song ‘CHAAND TAARE’ from the movie was shot nearby Shah Rukh Khan’s Mannat Bungalow and Rajesh Khanna’s Aashirvaad’s bungalow.
The on-screen chemistry of Shah Rukh and Juhi Chawla has always been noticeable and the audience has always loved them to see together. They both appeared in at least 11 films together and there has always been a special connection between them which made them best friends. Their relationship took another beautiful turn when they started the production house ‘RED CHILLIES ENTERTAINMENT’ together. The movie ‘YES BOSS’ and its music will always have a special mention in Bollywood industry and in the heart of Shah Rukh and Juhi’s fans.
